    Illinois State University, founded in 1857, is the oldest public university in Illinois.     General Summary

    The primary purpose of this position is to provide sponsored project accounting and administrative support to the Research and Sponsored Programs Office by establishing new awards, preparing various sponsored project invoices, financial reporting, making journal entries for charges and expense corrections, closing award files, tracking and managing accounts receivable, and many other duties.  

    Required Qualifications

    1. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling three (3) years (36 months), from the categories below:
    (a) Work experience and/or training in Accounting or a closely related field
    (b) College course work and/or training in Accounting or a closely related field including 12 semester hours in accounting
    - Associate Degree (60 semester hours) equals 18 months
    - 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
    - Bachelor's degree or higher (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)

    2. A total of two (2) years (24 months) of experience in professional level accounting work consistent with the next lower level of this series.

    An advanced degree in accountancy or registration as a Certified Public Accountant may be substituted for one year of professional experience.

    If this position is Security Sensitive or if you are subject to a criminal background investigation based on University policy, then employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources. 
     

    Desired Qualifications:

    1. An intermediate level of computer experience and knowledge of spreadsheets and databases.

    2. Advanced working knowledge of Cayuse, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.

    3. Good understanding of basic accounting and ability to utilize that knowledge in a computerized environment.

    4. Ability to interpolate information, such as receiving information from a wide variety of stakeholders, running reports, interpreting data, and combining data into an invoice and various other report formats.

    5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

    6. Ability to prioritize assignments and work with multiple tasks is also required.

    7. Ability to learn rules, regulations, and procedures of the University, Board of Trustees and State of Illinois. 
     

    Hiring Rate/Range

    $3346 - $4351 per month  

    Work Hours

    Core Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday through Friday
