The Black Doctoral Network (BDN) is excited to return to Los Angeles, California on Saturday, April 22, 2023 for our Western Regional Conference themed Connection, Collaboration & Cultivation. The conference will be hosted by California State University, Los Angeles (College of Ethnic Studies). 

This conference highlights academic and professional topics that engage, challenge, encourage, and foster excellence by discussing the development and refinement of research, policies, and practices that produce new ways of thinking as we collectively move toward the future.

The BDN Western Regional Conference is an interdisciplinary event that brings together academics and professionals from fields such as social and health sciences, STEAM, business, education, and humanities in order to address ways to engage our communities, empower scholars to develop new ideas and solutions, and take part in conversations that inform each other’s work.

Registration prices range from $80 - $155.

The Black Doctoral Network is leading the next generation of Black scholars to reach new heights. Encouraging intellectual curiosity and transformative research, the Black Doctoral Network is a bridge leader, creating paths between scholars, disciplines, and academic universities all while its serves as an invaluable connection between higher education and the community at large.

Dr. Kris Marsh is a professor, researcher and author of  The Love Jones Cohort: Single and Living Alone in the Black Middle Class Dr. Marsh’s general areas of expertise are the Black middle class, demography, racial residential segregation, and education. She has combined these interests to develop a research agenda that is divided into two broad areas: avenues into the Black middle class and consequences of being in the Black middle class.

Refund Policy: 

No refunds will be granted starting April 1, 2023.

Parking information: 

Visitors will park in Structure A. This is the closest lot to the Student Services Building where the conference will be held. The daily rate is $10.00. There are pay stations throughout the parking structure.

Hotel Information:

The Black Doctoral Network Inc. has negotiated a sleeping room rate of $160/night (doubles & singles) for Deluxe Rooms and $260/night (doubles & singles) for Studio Suites for all Regional Conference guests at the Biltmore Hotel for Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22 and surrounding nights. Reservations can be made online or over the phone by dialing 213-612-1575 (mention code: BDN Western Regional Conference). To receive the discounted rate, you must tell the hotel that you are part of the BDN Western Regional Conference. Reservations must be made by Friday, April 7, 2023. Any requests for special room arrangements must be made at the time of your call.
