Description of the Workshop:
We don’t write simply to get PhinisheD; instead, we write to be read, to expose and share, to make a change. Therefore, this interactive workshop will aim to provide you with hands-on experience in strengthening academic writing to better communicate your message. During the session, you will be able to experiment with your own written pieces, or provided model sentences, to practice the strategies discussed. Potential topics may include avoiding long sentences, using punctuation (commas and dashes) for clarification and pace, reducing wordiness and repetition, and using transition words to guide the reader. By the end of the workshop, you will walk away with 1) both practiced and practical strategies to apply to your own writing, 2) a developed awareness for writing with the reader in mind, 3) insight into the mind of a professional copy editor, and 4) an improved confidence for communicating via the written word.
