The Program in Asian Studies at Bates College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Japanese to begin August 1, 2020. We seek applicants with expertise in the cultural production of pre-modern and/or early-modern Japan, and experience teaching Japanese language at all levels. Candidates who have experience with marginalized and underrepresented student support and success are strongly encouraged to apply. The teaching load is five courses per year and will include at least two courses in Japanese language. Superior proficiency in Japanese and English is required.
