Cures Start Here. At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home to three Nobel laureates, interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists seek new and innovative ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases. Fred Hutch’s pioneering work in bone marrow transplantation led to the development of immunotherapy, which harnesses the power of the immune system to treat cancer. An independent, nonprofit research institute based in Seattle, Fred Hutch houses the nation’s first cancer prevention research program, as well as the clinical coordinating center of the Women’s Health Initiative and the international headquarters of the HIV Vaccine Trials Network. We are seeking applications from strong candidates for a new postdoctoral fellowship position in Cancer Epidemiology at the Public Health Sciences at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Fred Hutch) as part of the T32 training grant. The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to work with Drs. Ulrike Peters and Polly Newcomb, as well as other Fred Hutch faculty as secondary mentors on multiple NIH funded large-scale molecular epidemiological studies for cancer risk and survival. These projects include discovery of novel gene-environment interactions, integrative tumor analyses, and risk prediction modeling, among others. Through international collaborative efforts, we have developed large-scale molecular and genetic data in over 150,000 participants of increasing racial and ethnic diversity, including genome-wide genetic data, large-scale targeted tumor sequencing (including microbiome data), and harmonized detailed epidemiological, lifestyle and clinical data. Furthermore, the Fred Hutch is home of numerous large studies, such as the Women’s Health Initiative.
The successful applicant will work on a highly collaborative multidisciplinary research teams to perform cutting edge analyses, implement novel statistical methodology, incorporate functional genetic information, and publish research results as first author. Opportunities also exist for grant writing, study management, and contributing to other manuscripts as co-author. The Fred Hutch provides a challenging academic and supportive multi-disciplinary research environment and the fellow will be able to take full advantage of training, education, and mentorship opportunities offered through the center. Please note that this is NOT a laboratory-based position.
A Ph.D. or equivalent degree is required. The position requires a highly motivated individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills who is able to work in a highly collaborative fast paced environment. Expertise in analyses of molecular and genetic data and computational methods for the analysis of complex, high-dimensional genotype data is desirable.
Please attach a cover letter, a 1-2 page summary describing your research interests, and the contact information for three professional references. Please also note that due to funding requirements, a qualified candidate must be a US citizen or permanent resident.
